OMV Petrom discovered a new natural gas deposit next to Craiova with a huge production potential

OMV Petrom announces that it has made a new discovery of natural gas in Spineni, near Craiova
OMV Petrom made a new discovery of natural gas in Spineni, 70 km from Craiova. The production tests performed indicate a production potential of 1,300 bep per day. About 15 million euros have been invested so far in the exploration phase.
“OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeast Europe, announces the discovery of a new natural gas deposit in Spineni, located about 70 km northeast of Craiova,” announces the company.
The exploration probe 1 Spineni, drilled up to a depth of about 4,800 meters, confirmed the presence of natural gas and condensate, the results being supported by the production tests. The test tests that made the discovery indicate a production potential of 180,000 m³ of natural gas and 25 m³ of condensate, with a total 1,300 bep/day.
The prospectus was identified on the basis of the data obtained from the 3D Spineni seismic study, carried out in 2022 in the X Craiova perimeter.
“In 2025, we intend to invest 5.8 billion lei in exploration and production, almost half of this amount being allocated to onshore operations in parallel with the advance of Neptun Deep Offshore, a strategic project that involves significant investments. We already have operations, “said Cristian Hubati, a member of the OMV Petrom directorate, responsible for exploration and production.
The tests have confirmed that the discovery is commercial, the next step is the approval of the development plan.
For this onshore project, OMV Petrom invested about EUR 15 million in the exploration phase.
OMV Petrom is the largest integrated energy producer in South-East Europe, with an annual oil and gas production of about 40 million Bep in 2024. The group has a refining capacity of 4.5 million tonnes annually and operates an 860 MW high-efficient natural gas power station. On the market of retail petroleum products, gestures present in Romania and in the neighboring countries through approximately 780 gas stations, under two brands – OMV and Petrom.
OMV Petrom is a company in which, at the end of 2024, the Romanian shareholders have over 44% of the shares (of which the Romanian state, through the Ministry of Energy, owns 20.7%, and 23.7% are owned by the Romanian pension funds, to which are added almost 500,000 individual investors and other Romanian entities). OMV Aktiengsellschaft, one of the largest industrial companies listed in Austria, owns 51.2% of OMV Petrom shares, and the remaining 4.5% are owned by other foreign investors. Of the total shares of OMV Petrom, 28.1% are freely traded on the Bucharest Stock Exchange
