Calin Georgescu will be in court. He glorified the fascist leaders of Romania


Prosecutors say that in the period from June 16, 2020 to May 16, 2025, Georgescu repeatedly supported fascist ideas in a series of interviews, online entries and public speeches.
He was also accused of glorifying the extremist historical figuressuch as Marshal Ion Antonescu – the leader of the fascist government of Romania during World War II, convicted of war crimes – and Corneliu Zelea Codreanu, founder of the Romanian interwar fascist Fascist Paramilitarian group of the Iron Guard.
Georgescu threatens from three months to three years in prison, and even a longer sentence due to the continuous nature of the acts alleged to him.
The case, brought to the court of first instance in Bucharest, applies only to the allegation of “propagating legion doctrines” related to the Romanian Legionary Movement, which co -ruled the country for five months in 1940–1941. Georgescu remains an investigation into other serious crimes, including alleged attempts to overthrow the constitutional order.
Georgescu, an ardent ultra -loud opponent of the EU and NATO, gained publicity during the presidential election in Romania in November 2024, in which he won 22.9 percent. votes in the first round.
The National Constitutional Tribunal later annulled the results of the election, citing reliable evidence of foreign interference, including alleged influence actions supported by Russia and a coordinated disinformation campaign on Tiktoku.
The election was then postponed to May, but Georgescu was deprived of the right to re -run and announced that he was withdrawing from politics.
