After the message published on Tuesday evening by Carmen Uscatu about the “incompatibility of roles” in which the other co-founder of the “Dăruiiste Viață” association, Oana Gheorghiu, is, the artist Tudor Chirilă reacted.
A well-known, long-term supporter of the NGO that built the oncology hospital for children, Tudor Chirilă wanted to send the two a list of international personalities who also held public positions.
“You have a responsibility towards the donors, you have the money for the medical campus and responsibility is needed”, insisted the artist, in a comment published on Carmen Uscatu's post.
What Tudor Chirilă wrote:
- “@Carmen Uscatu: Everything you did at Daruieste Viață you did together with Oana Gheorghiu. And it's important that none of you forget that.
- Below is a list of famous people who have held positions in government and also served as non-executive founding members simultaneously with political office: Barack Obama – Senator (2005–2008), then President (2009–2017) / Annenberg Foundation Challenge, Woods Fund of Chicago. Ségolène Royal – Minister of the Environment, Energy and the Sea (2014–2017) / Désirs d'Avenir-founder. José Ramos-Horta (East Timor) – foreign minister, later president / Instituto para a Defesa dos Direitos Humanos. Nicola Sturgeon – Prime Minister (2014–2023) / Women for Independence / Co-founder.
- For me and thousands of other Romanians who have donated to Dăruiește Viață, this NGO does not exist without Oana Gheorghiu.
- You have a responsibility to donors, you have the money for the medical campus, and accountability is needed.
- Oana's departure from the foundation, giving up her founding membership is equivalent to leaving this beautiful child orphaned by one of her parents.“
The message published by Tudor Chirilă comes after, on Tuesday, in an interview given to HotNews, Carmen Uscatu signaled the incompatibility situation in which Oana Gheorghiu is, which she categorized as “a very great vulnerability” to the “Dăruiește Viață” association.
The reason cited for this vulnerability is that, although he has self-suspended himself from executive roles, Gheorghiu still retains the capacity of a voting member of the NGO's General Assembly. This situation makes the international sponsors ask questions about a possible conflict of interests, said Carmen Uscatu.
INTERVIEW Carmen Uscatu, co-founder of “Give Life”, says that Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu did not withdraw from the NGO's General Assembly and believes that this is “an incompatibility”
Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu conveyed, later in the day, that the fact that she remained a founding member of the association “Dăruiește Viață” does not make her incompatible with the position in the government. “Romanian legislation does not impose on members of the Government the obligation to renounce their capacity as founding members of a non-governmental organization, there are other people in the Government of Romania who are members of non-governmental organizations. (…) My status is 100% in accordance with the law”, the deputy prime minister emphasized, in a point of view sent to HotNews.
In the course of the evening, Carmen Uscatu returned with a message, in which she insisted that Oana Gheorghiu was incompatible – that is, the message to which Tudor Chirilă reacted.
Carmen Uscatu denounces pressure and asks Oana Gheorghiu to protect the association founded together. “An unprecedented situation in Romania”
“Now we are a non-governmental organization faced with an unprecedented situation in Romania: an incompatibility of roles that Oana fulfills simultaneously, as a member of the non-governmental organization Dăruieste Viață and a member of the Government of Romania. We have spoken transparently about this truth in recent days, facing the hostility around us. Oana Gheorghiu will be the best Deputy Prime Minister of Romania. But, at the same time, I hope to have the wisdom to listen to the legitimate interest of our organization”, wrote Uscatu, in that post published on Facebook.
