The EC tightens the screw at 90%. Proposes a new atmospheric goal until 2040

The European Commission proposed on Wednesday to set a climate goal for 2040. According to the proposal, greenhouse gas emissions should then amount to 90 percent. Less relative to the level of 1990, the help of reaching the goal is the possibility of including projects financed in third countries.

That is why the so -called market is to be launched in the second half of the next decade coal loans. Their purchase will allow for balancing emissions in member states. Coal loans are to lead to financing green projects in third countries such as planting trees.

The EC proposed a new goal despite the growing doubts in some EU capitals. French President Emmanuel Macron expressed them, who after the EU summit last week announced that the EC should delay the proposal of a new climate goal.

The European Union has undertaken to achieve net climate neutrality in 2050. Then the amount of greenhouse gases emitted to the atmosphere will be equal to the amount of absorbed gases.
