The court won the case to the plaintiffs, who launched a collective appeal in the name of a number of Californians estimated at 14 million in 2019, their lawyer confirmed on Wednesday, according to Agerpres.
The complaint accuses Alphabet, Google's parent company, of being responsible for an abusive mobile data collection system, without the consent of the owners of the phones with Android operating system, including when the devices were inactive.
These data – subsequently exploited for commercial purposes, especially for targeted advertisements – consumed some of the benefits included in the tariff plans, the applicants denounced.
In his defense, Google challenged any damage caused to consumers through this data collection, provided, according to the company, in the commercial contract for use.
“The samples presented at the trial revealed that Google secretly collects a massive amount of information coming from Smart phones with Android system and unnecessarily consumes the mobile data of the phone owners without their consent.”commented the applicants' lawyer, Glen Summers, for AFP.
As for her, Google has reported that she will appeal to the Court's decision.
