The Committee on Control, Ethics and Discipline (CEDB) of the UEFA announced new sanctions for the Romanian national, after the incidents from the match with Cyprus, played on November 18, 2024, in the League of Nations. “Tricolorii” then imposed themselves at the National Arenascore 4-1.

Therefore, more than 7 months after the confrontation of “tricolors” with Cypriots, the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) was fined by UEFA for incidents that took place on the National Arena.

Drastic fine for FRF from UEFA, for incidents from Romania – Cyprus 4-1, match played on November 18, 2024

FRF was fined 55,250 eurosand for the next match that Romania will play on the National Arena in UEFA competitions, three sectors (105, 106, 107) will be closed. However, this measure is suspended for two years and will be implemented only if the incidents are repeated.

Romania would win group 2 of League C, with 18 points out of 18 possible. The “tricolors” promoted in the League B. Kosovo finished 2 in that group, Cyprus on 3 and Lithuania on 4.

The sanctions that UEFA gave

  • 30,000 euros fine for racist and discriminatory behavior of supporters.

  • 14,000 euros fine for blocking access roads.

  • 11,250 euros fine for the ignition of pyrotechnic materials.

  • Closing sectors 105, 106 and 107 from the National Arena, with suspension for two years.

  • Romania and Cyprus have also recently met in the preliminaries of the World Championship of 2026. On June 10, three weeks ago, the “tricolors” defeated Cypriot on the largest stadium, score 2-0. The goals were scored by Florin Tanase and Dennis Man.

  • For Romania follows the friendly match on their own ground with Canada, scheduled on September 5th.
