The situation from Salina Praid, discussed in the CSAT. The two scenarios taken into account for “maintaining the operation”

The serious situation from Salina Praid, “an important component of the economic and strategic infrastructure of Romania”, was debated in the meeting of the Superior Council of the Country, which took place on Monday, June 30. In the end, the members of the Council have transmitted that they were considering two scenarios to recover the area.
The CSAT members analyzed, at today's meeting, the information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests, according to a statement sent by the Presidential Administration, at the end of the meeting.
“Salina Praid is not only an economic objective, but also one with a significant social and tourist impact. Maintaining its functioning in safe conditions is essential for protecting employees, local community and natural resources,” the statement said.
Thus, the CSAT members consider two scenarios “for the future of Saline Praid”:
- reconditioning the old mine
- setting up two mines – for tourism and production
The meeting of the Supreme Council of Defense of the Country lasted about three and a half hours. In the meeting, the tax evasion was also discussed, being for the first time that the subject was included in the CSAT “as threat and risk to national security”
What is the situation at Salina Praid, currently
The Minister of Economy, Radu Miruţă, accused, on Sunday, June 29, the management of the state company Salrom of not seriously treating the works of deviation of the Corund River, which caused the flood of Salina Praid.
Asked if the Mina from Praid will collapse, the Minister of Economy replied: “Possibly, yes. To turn into a lake.”
Salina Praid, one of the most famous saline in Romania, was destroyed by the waters brought by the strong rains of May. Due to the infiltration, the underground dam has given up, and the salt mine galleries can be collapsed at any time.
“This phenomenon began a few years ago. I think what the authorities misled was the small debit normally encountered in this area and then they thought that that waterproofing is sufficient, a reduction in water contact with the substrate made of salt and the ground would no longer occur the influence in the ground. Whether regularized or redirected and not in contact with this salt seed that is Salina Praid, ”added the teacher.
He also said that in the underground there are now “millions of cubic meters of water” that dissolve the salt, “until a very dense brine”.
