The parliamentarians who have houses in Bucharest will no longer receive money for rent. The law was voted today in Parliament

The senators and deputies voted on Monday, on the last day of the parliamentary session, the law by which the parliamentarians who have housing in Bucharest or Ilfov, on their behalf or wife, will no longer benefit from the settlement of the rent.
Of the 366 parliamentarians who were present, 361 voted “for” the modification of the law, two abstained, and 3 did not vote. There was no “against” vote.
According to the initial law, the parliamentarians who did not have their domicile in Bucharest benefited, based on a declaration on their own responsibility, money for rent or accommodation in Bucharest. The amount reached up to 4,600 lei.
According to the changes voted, on Monday, June 30, in the Parliament, the senators and deputies who declare on their own responsibility that they have properties in Bucharest or Ilfov both on their behalf and on the name of their wife, they will not be the first rent money from the state. However, the law does not apply to parliamentarians who have buildings passed on behalf of children.
“Congratulations! What did you do 35 years?”
During the plenary debates, Florin Bogdan Velcescu, deputy gold, said that, in addition to this change, the parliamentarians should also vote for a law that reduces the subsidies of the parties.
George Simion, the golden leader reminded, at the stands, about the amendment proposed by his party, which was rejected and which provided for the revenue revenues for all parliamentarians, not just for those who have his domicile in Bucharest.
Gheorghe Vela, senator can, asked for all the parliamentarians to benefit from the same rights, and those in the “province” and those in Bucharest “to have a place of retreat”.
The deputy not affected by Ciprian Ciubuc congratulated his parliamentary colleagues for the law he called populist.

Alexandru Dimitriu, a USR deputy, reproached the parliamentarians who spoke before they came to Parliament to get rich.
“In Parliament VII and contribute to Romania after you work, do not come to get it. Now come to explain how beautiful and common sense is. The lack of common sense from you comes,” said Dimitriu.
The draft law was initiated by Sorin Grindeanu and Ciprian Șerban, the current and former president of the Chamber of Deputies, both PSD deputies.
Were receiving rent money although they had properties in Bucharest
An investigation of free Europe published on June 11, 2025 revealed that 270 of the 331 deputies benefited from rent settlements in Bucharest.
But 21 of the 270 houses in the capital or in Ilfov county, said the former president of the Chamber of Deputies, Ciprian Șerban. Moreover, some of them are people wearing business in real estate.
12 senators are in the same situation. Among them are Sorin Lavric, Petre George Cezar, Mircea Ionuț Sandu, Dumitru Spau, Daniela Ștefănescu, Gheorghe Vlăescu – from Aur, Ninel Peia and Cristian Bem – from Sos Romania.
Rent money also received Robert Cazanciuc and Carmen Orban, who stated that the two apartments in Bucharest are of the major children – from PSD and Gabriela Horga from PNL.
Horga said for Free Europe that he lives in Târgoviște and that the apartment in Bucharest was not available. She said she would give up the flat amount after the parliamentary session is completed.
According to the investigation, six PSD deputies live in the Capital and receive a rent for rent within 50% of the gross allowance. These are Adrian Câciu, Vlad-Florentin Drînceanu, Mirela-Florence Matichescu, George-Adrian Popa, Ştefan-Ovidiu Popa and Mihai-Viorel Fifor.
Florin Roman's wife, PNL deputy has, according to the declaration of wealth, a house of 311 square meters in Voluntari. In the same situation is George Șerban Cătălin, as well as a liberal deputy, whose daughter has 2 apartments in Bucharest, shows Free Europe.
And from gold there are six deputies: Ştefăniţă Avrămescu, Florin-Eugen Cîrligea, Mugur Mihăescu, Silviu-Florin Oancea, Dumitru Tilea, Florin Bogdan Velcescu.
USR deputy George Gima owns three apartments in Bucharest, at two of them being a co-owner (50%) with actor Marius Manole, according to Dobrogealive.ro.
Geroge Gima's wealth statement, filed in June 2025 for fiscal year 2024, shows that all three apartments in Bucharest were rented.
On June 13, George Gima announced that he is giving up the accommodation allowance received from the Parliament. He also said that the buildings held in Bucharest are rented, with the payment of taxes.
He also stated that “regarding the responsible spending of the lump sums allocated to the parliamentarians, I can say that from the beginning of the mandate to the present I have received about 75% of the total amount allocated.
The USR deputy also says that the fact that he did not submit from the beginning a request for renunciation of the state paid by the state “is a mistake, certainly”.
