Russia is buying parts for aircraft. She spent EUR 1 billion on this since the beginning of the war

The Finnish public broadcaster Yle reported after a journalistic investigation that despite the sanctions, Russia was able to import parts for Western Boeing and Airbus aircraft worth EUR 1 billion – Moscow Times said on Thursday.


Journalists reached Russian customs documents, which show that over 360 companies around the world were involved in the illegal supply of planes parts. The largest exporting countries were the United Arab Emirates, Gabon, China and Türkiye.
Russia purchased both key components, such as engines and ordinary cabin accessories. The lists also included equipment suitable for military use, such as radar systems and on -board computers. In total, from February 2022 to September 2024, Russia received parts for Airbus worth EUR 600 million and a Boeing parts worth EUR 400 million. However, the actual volumes of supply can be higher – emphasized the Finnish portal.
The recipients were dozens of different companies, mainly carriers serving civil flights. Among them, investigators distinguished the S7 Engineering, which describes itself as a leading Russian company providing maintenance and repair services of Western aircraft.
Boeing and Airbus responded to the question of YLE, stating that they follow all applicable rights and sanctions related to Russia and that there is no legal way to export aircraft, parts, documentation or services to this country.
In February, Investigate Europe journalists learned that Russia obtained parts for Western passenger aircraft also through India. Some of the purchased components could be used for military purposes, although they were mainly imported by civil air carriers.
The US and the EU banned the supply of aircraft and components to Russian carriers, as well as the maintenance of existing aircraft.
The portal noticed that Russian airlines currently have 1138 aircraft at their disposal. Two -thirds of the fleets are Boeing and Airbus machines. (PAP)
