VTB experts report a scheme of fraud in which scammers under the guise of employers lure large amounts from new employees. Victims are users of sites for searching for work that transfer money under the pretext of “help”.

Fraudsters post attractive vacancies on the job search sites, for example, an assistant or assistant general director. They quickly “approve” the candidate and sign an employment agreement with him. Further through messengers give simple tasks, imitating the workflow.

A few days later, the “manager” urgently asks to help – transfer money to the indicated details for the purchase of medicines to parents or pay them by link, promising a refund when he returned from a business trip. After the transfer, scammers either require more money, or simply disappear and block all contacts.

“Such schemes use the trust of people who are looking for work. Criminals do not just create the appearance of employment-they artificially form the relationship “boss-subordinate” so that the victim is psychologically easier to agree to their conditions. When the new “leader” asks to help with medicines for a sick mother or other personal problems, many perceive it as a confidential sign and the opportunity to prove themselves. But not a single law -abiding employer will demand a transfer of money from an employee – even under a plausible pretext. This is always a sign of a crime, ”said Dmitry Revyakin, VTB Vice President, Head of the Department of Protection of Corporate Interests in the Security Department.

How to protect yourself: Before you agree to work, check the employer – find the company's official contacts and make sure of its existence, do not limit yourself to correspondence in messengers. Never transfer the money, even if you are promised compensation or a refund – a real employer will not ask for it. Be careful with suspicious phone numbers, as scammers often change them and hide under fictional names. If you are offered to pay for something before employment, this is a clear sign of fraud.
