Andy Murray (38) will have a statue at Wimbledon, raised in his honor, and the All England Club officials said they were inspired by the tribute to Roland Garros for Rafael Nadal, who won 14 titles on the Paris slag.
Andy Murray's withdrawal was much more discreet than Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The British man put an end to his career in 2024, after the Paris Olympic Games, a moment almost overlooked in the heart of so many events in the huge polisport competition.
Benefited from a brief and exciting ceremony, after playing his last match on the Wimbledon central field last year, at the double. And it may have followed something if Emma Răducanu had not withdrawn from the mixed double painting, where she had to play with the triple Grand Slam champion.
In order to put things on another path, to recognize the merits of Andy Murray, Debbie Jevans, the director of the major tournament, announced that he will have his own statue at the All England Club.

She also said that the British tennis star will be involved in designing the sculpture, which will be revealed in 2027, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Wimbledon.
Murray has won the title for Simple twice, in 2013 and 2016, becoming the first British to succeed after a significant break, from Fred Perry's last triumph.
Jeans revealed that the tournament wanted to honor Murray in a way similar to that of Rafael Nadal, for whom Roland Garros officials with a homage plaque, unveiled this year, after Spanish withdrew from tennis in November 2024.
“We looked at Rafa Nadal having that type of plaque revealed for him at Roland Garros, something very special. And we thought, “What would we want for Andy?” I had a celebration when he played his last match on Centre Court“Said Debbie Jevans, speaking at Podcastul Performance People.
“And the old players were present, he greeted him, and Sue Barker had an interview. So we did a similar thing for him here last year, but we want to have a statue of Andy Murray here and we work closely with him and his team,” she said.

“It will be wonderful and truly special. He and his team must be very involved in it right and so it will be,” Jeans said.
Fred Perry, the last British to win the title before Murray, is the only player who has a statue with all the stature at Wimbledon.
Andy Murray: “Better than in Shanghai”
Commenting on the plans, Murray said that it is confident that the statue will be more suitable than the terracotta figure that was revealed during the 1000 Masters from Shanghai in 2011.
“Then they did these terracotta, warrior type things, and they were not great,” he told The Guardian. “But, based on how Wimbledon deals with things and their attention to details, I would expect it to be very good. So I trust that they will do a good job“, He added.

“It will be nice to take my kids there and show them“He added.”Obviously, I spend a decent time at the All England Club during the year and I always see Fred Perry's statue. It will be weird to see a statue with me there, but I'm sure I will be very proud of the time“, Andy concluded.
There is also a sculpture called Serving Ace Meeting Tree and five British champions busts – Kitty Godfree, Dorothy Round, Angela Mortimer, Ann Jones and Virginia Wade.
Billie Jean King, 81, the American tennis star who won 39 Grand Slam titles, drove the initiative for a Murray statue last summer.
In addition to Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016, the British won the US Open in 2012 and the Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016, being the only player to conquer the title twice. He also spent 41 weeks in the world number one position.
