Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer – is this an alternative to the Passat Kombi?

Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer already has several successes. The most important of them, from the point of view of the German brand, is probably that he broke her not the best run on the market of “electricians”. I have to admit that ID.7 Tourer is a completely different quality than the first “bugged” ID.3. In my opinion, the model that I had the opportunity to ride even outclasses Tesla, as evidenced by sales results in many European countries.

Quality is one of Id.7's advantages over the cars of the famous American brand. This is no longer a car with a cabin assembled with miserable plastics, which was full of in the first, compact ID.3. Now the electric equivalent of Passat has a modern, interesting designed cabin, in which we will find soft, pleasant to the touch plastics and panels covered with fabric. So that it would be nice. And closer to the premium class.

In short, ID.7 This is not a “car for the people”, as the brand name could test. This car is almost five meters long and a huge, almost three -meter wheelbase. These are the sizes of luxurious limousines – something between the Mercedes class E and S. In the cabin, it is as spacious as in the mentioned models, but in total, like in even in Skoda Superb.

In the case of ID.7 in the Tourer version, i.e. a station wagon, there is another important advantage: a huge and functional trunk, whose capacity is up to 605 liters. So when we plan a vacation, this “electrician” may turn out to be a hit. We can easily pack all the necessary gadgets, and at the same time it is not a massive SUV, but a lot of lighter station wagons. About aerodynamics better than SUVs, and therefore with a greater range with the same size of batteries.

Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer – really on long routes

In the tested version, with a battery with a real capacity of 77 kWh, the car has a 614 HP range declared by the manufacturer, but you can also buy 12,000 more expensive. PLN version with a larger, 86-kilo-hour battery. Then the theoretical range is up to 709 km. ABOUTIndeed, these are not real values on the route, which we cover at a speed of 140 km/h, not very economical in the case of electric cars.

In the real world, even when it was warm, it has an expressway, the car will use about 21 kWh/100 km – the real range of the tested ID.7 on the route will therefore be slightly below 400 km. But this is not a bad result, as long as we go along the road where fast chargers are available. The car can be connected to devices up to 175 kW (tested version) or up to 200 kW (in the case of ID.7 with a larger battery). Theoretically, therefore, supplementing energy from 10 to 80 percent. It can take about half an hour. Usually this is not the case, because to get such a result you need to find a good charger, preferably without other “electricians” connected to it. You also have to get to it with a properly prepared battery. There are a lot of factors and in practice, when we actually go to these 10 percent, you have to take into account even an hour's post.

Of course, in the city of ID.7 Tourer is definitely more economical. If you try, you can get a result even at the level of 16 kWh/100 km, but it's with very quiet driving. In this case, the range is almost 500 km. Energy can be supplemented every day, either with a home wallbox (e.g. with a power of 11 kW) or even from a regular 230 V socket. Unless you plan to charge a full 77 kWh, it is not even a bad idea. However, charging almost empty battery with low power would last for centuries – over a day.
