On Thursday, the Ministry of the Interior and Administration summarized the preliminary results of inspections in animal shelters. It reported that district veterinary inspectors carried out over 200 unannounced visits to over 175 facilities and submitted appropriate reports.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, deficiencies were found in four shelters: in Tarnów, Oświęcim, Sobolewo and Golub-Dobrzyń. These are insufficient protection of animals against the cold, frozen water in bowls, damage and deficiencies in infrastructure, too many animals in closed spaces, insufficient hygiene, and careless documentation of procedures and employees' actions – the ministry said.

The head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, also announced renewed inspections on the X platform.

After verifying the voivodes' shelters, we are checking again the places that raise concerns: Tarnów, Oświęcim, Golub-Dobrzyń and Sobolew – he wrote.

The inspecting veterinarians paid particular attention to the insulation of the kennels, the availability of unfrozen water, adequate insulation from the ground, as well as safety and hygiene in the animals' spaces. Both the documentation in the shelters and the actual conditions and condition of the animals found during the unannounced inspection were inspected. Stocks of food and warming materials were also checked.

Recently, the case of an animal shelter in Bytom (Silesian Voivodeship) has received wide media attention. Investigations into animal abuse at this facility are conducted by the Mysłowice police under the supervision of the local prosecutor's office. (PAP)
