En+, Sber and Rusal entered into an agreement on cooperation in the field of integrated development of sustainable development practices and implementation of artificial intelligence technologies (AI) in the field of evaluation and forecasting of climatic risks.

Companies will study and develop models of machine learning and other and technologies for their use in the field of forecasting physical climatic risks, environmental protection, preservation of biodiversity, as well as the development of presence regions. Models will be engaged in weather forecasts, including temperature and stormy wind, in the Irkutsk region. Hydrological forecasts of the influx to the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station and Lake Baikal will also be compiled. Regular update will ensure the relevance of data and increase awareness when making decisions.

“En+ partnership and Rusal with Sberes are a logical continuation of the activity that we are already conducting in the field of climatic forecasting. We are testing models of Baikal's water -based water together with the Institute of Water Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences and expect that artificial intelligence will significantly increase their accuracy. In addition, our cooperation will create tools that directly affect people's safety and the stability of energy infrastructure. An innovative mutualization model through carbon units opens up new opportunities for scaling such technologies and forming a systematic approach to climatic risk management, ”said Irina Bakhtina, deputy general director for sustainable development of EN+.

The key element of cooperation will be the test of carbon units as a “payment” tool for analytics to predict physical climatic risks and water – previously this form of mutual account was not used in the open market and this is the first market precedent in the Russian Federation.

“Today, climatic risks are a factor that affects not only the environmental agenda, but also the stability of business models, infrastructure and long-term planning. Our agreement with En+ and Rusal is an example of how leaders in their sectors combine competencies for the development of system solutions. Sber on its part provides not just a technological platform, but a full -fledged examination in the field of artificial intelligence and climate analytics. We are talking about specific products: models that can predict the flow of water in Baikal or the probability of a storm wind in the region, is what directly affects people's safety, continuity of production processes and improving the quality of investment solutions. These data become the basis for the adaptation of territories to new climatic realities. It is fundamentally important for us that the result of cooperation will bring value not only to business, but will also contribute to the achievement of the strategic tasks of the region – including in the context of the implementation of the national development goals of the Russian Federation, ”said Anatoly Popov, deputy chairman of the board of Sberbank.

The parties intend to promote high standards of transparency, to share the developed practitioners in the field of sustainable development and to contribute to the scaling of effective solutions not only in Russia, but also in friendly countries.

“Artificial intelligence today, like electricity a century and a half ago, radically changes our life, makes us more effective. Together with partners, we expand the use of AI where it is of practical importance for ecology, economics and the population. Machine training and modeling technologies give us the opportunity to increase the accuracy of forecasts. They also become the basis for systemic solutions that can minimize damage from climatic risks, support the development of safe production and well -being of territories, ”said Evgeny Nikitin, general director of Rusala.
