Prices of cherries and strawberries in Poland. Where do the most expensive fruits come from?

Data from the Bronisze wholesale market show that in recent days there has been an increase in cherry imports.
Most fruit is currently imported from Serbia, Greece and Spain. However, price differences are significant and depend primarily on the country of origin, quality and size of the fruit. Serbian cherries remain the cheapest, with prices starting from about PLN 15 per kilogram. In turn, for the largest and highest-rated fruits from Spain, with a diameter exceeding 30 mm, you have to pay up to PLN 50 per kilogram.
Market experts emphasize that as supplies increase, prices are gradually falling. At the beginning of May, the first batches of imported cherries cost even over PLN 100 per kilogram, but the increased supply has made the prices much lower today.
We still have to wait a while for Polish cherries, but their appearance on the market should further reduce prices in the coming weeks.

Confusion on the strawberry market
The first domestic berries grown in greenhouses are also available on the market. However, the prices are astronomical. You have to pay about PLN 70 per kilogram. Fruits are most often sold in 125 g containers, making them more accessible to consumers.
In the case of strawberries, we are on the eve of the supply peak. There is a lot of confusion in the market. The supply is so irregular (due to the weather and gradual ripening) that prices fluctuate by as much as 30-40% between individual days. Currently, the price is PLN 15-17/kg, but it may drop dramatically in a few days if the weather improves.
As we wrote recently in Business Insider, strawberries can be purchased not only in stores, but also during self-harvests organized by farmers across the country. Those interested can take advantage of the offer of Mrs. Marianna, who invites you to her fields in Kiernozie (Łódź Voivodeship) and Brzozów (Mazowieckie Voivodeship).
The farmer offers fresh strawberries of Rumba, Verdi and Faith varieties. As he emphasizes, the fruit comes from his own, multi-generational plantation and there are no residues of plant protection products on them. During self-harvesting, she pays PLN 15 per kilogram of strawberries.
