Orchids – One of the most popular indoor plants thanks to their stunning colors, but achieving their flowering is not easy, especially if they do not receive the necessary nutrients.
Experts note that in order to care for the orchid, it is important to provide the plant with a sufficient amount of sunlight, proper watering and a suitable temperature. But if, despite all efforts, the plant does not bloom, it may not have enough useful substances.
Rodriguez’s indoor plants specialist recommends using home organic fertilizers that can be made from food residues. This approach not only saves funds, but also helps orchids to bloom more and longer.
“Organic fertilizers from home residues reduce the amount of waste, safe for the environment and provide plants with nutrients,” explains Rodriguez.
It especially selects a banana peel as a useful component. The peel of the banana is rich in potassium necessary for photosynthesis and plant protection from pests, and also contains phosphorus for the development of flowers and magnesium, which strengthens the roots.
To prepare fertilizer for an orchid, you will need:
- One banana peel per plant.
- Feed the orchid every four weeks.
Fertilizer preparation instructions:
- Place the banana peel in a jar and pour water. Close the jar with a lid.
- Leave the jar for 24–48 hours.
- Remove the peel and throw it away to avoid attracting insects.
- Dilute the infusion with water in a ratio of 1: 4.
- Pour the orchid, as usual, around the base.
Watch the plant. If the leaves turn yellow, probably potassium is already enough in the soil, and it is worth looking for other reasons for the lack of flowering. In case of success, fertilizer will strengthen the plant, and the orchid will bloom even more magnificent and beautiful.
