Prices for air tickets leaving Europe to the United States have dropped significantly, reaching a level that had not been recorded during the pandemic, travelers in Western Europe being at the top of resigning to tourism in the US, a tendency to continue at least until July, Reuters agency, quoted by Agerpres.
The arrivals of foreign visitors to the United States decreased at a annual rate of 2.8% last month, according to the preliminary data from the American Travel Office (NTTO), within the Trade Department. The arrivals of Western European tourists registered a decline of 4.4%, while the travels of tourists from Eastern Europe rose by 4.6%.
Future reservations suggest a sustained decline in the future, as the total external reservations in the US have decreased 13% annually in July, according to the Oag Aviation analysis company.
Transatlantic aerial rates began to decrease from the first quarter of 2025, when Europeans began to reconsider their travels, following the controversial statements of President Donald Trump and the launch of the global commercial war. Also, some tourists gave up traveling in the US following the temporary appreciation of the dollar.
In March, the arrivals of tourists in Western Europe decreased annually by 17%, according to NTTO data.
The number of American tourists visiting Europe has decreased too
The average air tariffs for a round trip to the economic class to over 50 US routes to Europe decreased 7% in the first quarter of 2025, and the rates for flights between Atlanta (Georgia) and London registered a 55% decline, the data of the Cirium analysis company shows.
“Fewer places have been occupied in the aircraft that left Europe to the United States, but also the number of American tourists to the European market has decreased from last year, 2025 to be a more difficult year to make money on transatlantic routes,” said Reuters Aran Ryan, director of Tourism Economics, a subsidiary of Oxford Economics.
This summer the price of tickets for a round trip from Europe to the United States is 10% lower compared to last year, according to the Hopper travel application. The average $ 817 per ticket are in line with prices to Europe in the summer of 2019, before the pandemic.
Important air operators, including Air France Klm and Lufthansa, are waiting for the activity. The chief of Lufthansa, Carsten Spohr says the company is expecting a lower demand in the third quarter of 2025, while the general manager of Air France Klm, Ben Smith, sees a slight decline in Transatlantic traffic and announces that the prices will be reduced to be occupied as many places as possible.
