The report on the causes of the failure was presented one and a half months after the incident. A voltage stroke was indicated as a reason, which caused a chain reaction leading to power failure throughout the continental Spain, as well as neighboring Portugal.

According to government investigation The main responsible for a power output is the national Red Electrica (REE) operator, which has incorrectly planned the demand for energy and compensation for power fluctuations. The minister emphasized, however, that many technical issues contributed to a vast failure.

Aagesen also blamed domestic energy producers who did not support the operator in need.

The politician repeated earlier government messages on Tuesday about excluding cyber attack on the network operator as a possible reason for failure. She also emphasized that the matter of final responsibility for the incident would be determined by: the National Commission for Markets and Competition, i.e. the regulatory body of the sector, and the courts.

The Spanish press pointed out that the work of a committee examining the causes of failure has accelerated in recent days, which coincided with the publication of recordings burdensome on Santos Cerdan, a close associate of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, which was to be involved in corruption.

The April failure in a few seconds at noon deprived tens of millions of Spanish inhabitants and neighboring Portugal. The break in electricity supply caused communication chaos in cities, stopping trains and subway and cancellation of mass events.

Energy supplies have been fully restored only the next day.
