In Russia, the poverty level of the population in the first quarter of 2025 decreased to 8.1 %. There is information about this on the Rosstat website.
Now 11.9 million people with incomes below the poverty border, which amounts to 16.6 thousand rubles per month, live in the Russian Federation. In the first quarter of 2024, their number was 14 million (9.6 %). According to the agency, improving the situation in the country was influenced by the growth of wages, as well as an increase in the incomes of the population from real estate and entrepreneurial activity.
At the same time, the level of poverty in Russia in early 2025 increased by 4.2 million people relative to the last IV quarter. At that time, 7.7 million people lived in the country behind the line (5.3 %). In general, over the year, the share of Russians with income below the poverty border was 7.2 %, which is a historical minimum.
Experts noted that the poverty level has a pronounced seasonal character-the maximum in the first quarter and the minimum in the IV quarter (due to premiums at the end of the year), so in the I quarter the poverty level is always higher than on average per year.
We will remind, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin during his annual message to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation instructed by 2030 to reduce the poverty level in the country to 7 %, and among large families – up to 12 %.
