Jerzy Buzek: We must have strategic immunity

Jubilee 20. The annual conference of the Polish Wind Energy Association was largely devoted to current challenges for renewable energy-both in geopolitical and economic and industrial. Prof. Jerzy Buzek, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland and former chairman of the European Parliament pointed to the processes that take place in the world and the role of Europe in the fight against climate change on the globe.

During the main session, the former prime minister turned to representatives of the wind industry. – You are in the middle of the revolutionary boom of our industrial civilization. 200 years ago, such a center was Silesia where coal was kicked. Now they are windmills, here in Pomerania there are very good conditions for both offshor and onshore. In his opinion, humanity must save the planet. – The point is that the civilization does not end the function of man on the planet. The planet will not end, the planet will survive without us, much better than with us. Man is very harmful to her – said the former prime minister. Jerzy Buzek pointed out that our goal is transformation. – We have a climate law, which was adopted by the European Parliament and all prime ministers unanimously approved. This law applies and nothing has changed except for the general idea. In a public message, we want to show a developing competitive economy in all aspects. We replaced this green order Net Zero Industry Act. We need to take care of a competitive economy and a dot. No more. This is expressed in solutions for pure industry, simplifications in all types of permits.
Jerzy Buzek emphasized the moment in which Europe is located. – In recent years we had a Covid pandemic, the beginning of the war in Ukraine, powered energy crisis, growing tensions in relations with the USA. We must have strategic immunity and we must be independent of what is happening outside – he said.
The former head of the European Parliament talked about the need to change in the European Union. – We spend 2.4 percent of our GDP as the EU countries on the purchase of fossil fuels from all parts of the world. When we give up Russia, it does not mean that we are to bring them from other directions. The Union spends 1.4 percent on defense GDP. We drive the war by paying Putin for raw materials. Let's use wind energy, it will be a guarantee for the development of Europe. Let's shoot a responsible transformation. Together, let's urge in our country to political unity in our country about the transition to renewable energy – said Buzek.
Janusz Gajowiecki, president of PSW indicated that as Europe is working on reducing dependence on fossil fuels and unstable energy imports, wind energy quickly becomes a pillar of its strategy. – Increasing the scale is not easy, but thanks to innovations and intelligent investments, the continent transforms its wind sources into a powerful driving force of changes. Poland is also facing the challenges resulting from global changes today. But the new balance of power, the need to build competitiveness and creating safe infrastructure is not only challenges – these are also opportunities – said Gajowiecki.
During the PSW conference, the installation port in Świnoujście was opened, which is to serve sea wind farms, primarily those belonging to Orlen. However, the terminal is also open to other entities. Janusz Bill, President of Orlen Neptun, informed during the inauguration of the terminal that the port will be leased for the needs of BC-Wind daughter Ocean Winds, which is joint venture edp renewables and Engie.
This year's edition of the PSW conference gathered about 3,000 participants. Bankier.pl was the patron of the conference.
