The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, discussed with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, about the conflict between Israel and Iran, as well as about the efforts to resolve the Ukraine war, the Russian press reported on Saturday, according to Reuters.
“The dangerous escalation in the Middle East was, of course, in the center of exchange (of opinions, no),” said the Kremlin, quoted by the Russian press.
Israel and Iran continued to attack on Saturday, in a conflict that broke out by the blows launched by the Israeli forces on Iranian nuclear installations on Thursday night. Both countries reported victims. Tehran has threatened the US, UK and France that their bases and ships in the region will become targets if they help stop the attacks targeting Israel.
The President of Russia had discussed both his Iranian counterpart on Friday, who sent Moscow to condemn the actions of Israel against Iran, as well as to the Israeli prime minister, who told him that the problems regarding the Nuclear Program of Tehran can be solved only by diplomacy, according to Reuters.
In a Friday message, the US leader asked Tehran to conclude an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
“There has already been a lot of death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the following already planned and brutal attacks, to end,” wrote the US president, on Friday, in a Platform Truth Social.
Trump and Putin also discussed the Ukraine War
According to the Kremlin, Putin informed Donald Trump about “the implementation of agreements at the meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul, on June 2”.
The Russian leader told his American counterpart that Russia is ready to continue negotiations with Ukraine after June 22, while Trump “has reiterated its interest in rapid resolution of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict,” added the Kremlin, quoted by The Moscow Times.
The two rounds of peace discussions that took place in Istanbul produced too few results from the perspective of the possibility of concluding an armistice and a wider peace agreement. Instead, the parties agreed prisoners.
This month there were several prisoners between Russia and Ukraine, and Zelenski expects them to continue until June 20 or 21.
Ukrainian official officials announced on Saturday that Ukraine received the inanimate bodies of 1,200 soldiers killed in the war.
