The Philippine ambassador to London went to Ballymen, in Northern Ireland, without consulting with local authorities, but on their own, using the right of diplomats to go to talk to the communities in the country they represent. The ambassador of Romania, Laura Popescu, could not do the same because the local authorities considered that its presence would inflamed the local spirits, because the Romanian diplomat represents both the victims of the aggressions, ie the Romanian citizens and the involved rapists, say diplomatic sources.
Hotnews told today about the fact that the Philippine immigrants from the North-Irish city Ballymen, affected by a week of violent protests of the locals after two young people with Romanian citizenship were accused of rape, received the visit of their London ambassador who assured all the support and the fact that they will be compensated during the materials suffered during protests.
The Romanian community in the city, although it is the main aimed at anti-immigration protests, was not visited by someone from the Embassy in London.
An explanation: Why didn't the Romanian ambassador go to Ballymen?
After publishing the article, I received the information that the Romanian ambassador to London, Laura Daniela Popescu, wanted from the first day of the protests to go to Ballymen, received the acceptance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but did not do so after consulting with the local authorities in Ballymen.
“Their main concern is to temper the spirits, and the presence of the Romanian ambassador could have amplified the protests, because it represents both the victims and the aggressors, those who were the pretext of the protests. The difference between the Filipine and the Romanian Ambassador is that the first represents only the victims,” the diplomatic sources explained.
The same sources assured that the representatives of the Romanian Embassy in the UK are constantly related to the North-Irish local authorities in the localities affected by anti-migrant protests and try to help the Romanians.
Since the beginning of the protests over 200 families of Roma, Romanian citizens, have left Ireland.
