Ukraine's Security Service Drones (SBU) attacked a Russian oil refinery in the Republic of Bascortostan on Saturday morning, causing explosions and fire, a source from SBU for Kyiv Independent said.
The announcement comes in the context in which Ukraine intensifies its attacks on the Russian gas and oil industry, a key source of income that helps Moscow to hold its invasion.
The attack targeted the Bașnafta UNPZ plant in UFA, a city that is one of the largest centers in the Russian refining industry, providing fuel and oil to Russian armed forces, according to SBU source.
Several explosions took place at the site of the attack, and a fire broke out in the area of the oil processing unit. Near the factory was seen a cloud of black smoke, and the firefighters were heading for the incident, according to the quoted source.
Officially, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its forces had stopped five Ukrainian drones on Saturday over Bascorten, without mentioning any damage.
The attack on the refinery, located about 1,400 kilometers from the Ukraine front line, marks the third SBU Drone attack in the last month.
The long -range SBU drones have previously hit the Petrochemical Factory Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat from the same region into two separate attacks, on September 18 and 24.
