The Ministry of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, said on Thursday night at Antena 3, that the situation at Praid could be prevented, with much lower costs and believes that it will be a long time until the area stabilizes. The minister also considers that another 48 hours with increased salinity values will follow, including on the Mureș river, and Hungary will be notified.
Minister Mircea Fechet said that, following the interventions made by a builder at Salina Praid, the chloride concentrations in the waters in the area are very high, risking to reach values that will no longer allow the treatment plants to work.
“Today it has been decided that any action, no matter how small or, apparently, insignificant of the manufacturer, should not be taken in the future, except by a site disposition, with the approval of the site manager, with the approval of the beneficiary, in this case, Salrom and with the approval at least and those from the Romanian Waters,” the minister said.
The pollution wave reaches Nădlac on Friday
The minister specified that yesterday's intervention through which two dams built on the Corund stream and the deviation of the water were removed through a bypass, which led to the increase of salinity in Târnava Mică, was not announced. Fechet believes that at this moment it is important to collaborate between institutions and the efficiency of actions and decisions that are common there.
The Minister of Finance asks for resignations for the situation at Salina Praid. The heads of Salrom and the Romanian waters are accused of ignoring the expert decisions
“In my opinion, the tragedy from Praid could be prevented. This is my opinion, because it was discussed in the public space. That it would be the fault of the NGOs, that it would be the faults of the beavers, but I say with all the responsibility that the guilt of man was, it was the fault of some wrong actions or it was a consequence of some inactions that should have been taken.”
Fechet warned that it follows 24-48 hours with high concentrations of chloride, which puts a huge pressure on the habitat.
“We already have the first episodes with fish mortality. This is a signal that the water has some extremely serious problems. Most likely, during today we will notify the Hungarian side, because all this pollution wave will probably reach the end of tomorrow and in Nădlac and will affect the course of the water and we will have to have a subject and to the one.
“One after another is waiting for us for a long time, because it is the tip of the iceberg, if you allow me to say so, but we await a long period in which we will have to manage all this situation that, in my opinion, could have been prevented with some infinitely lower costs than what has already cost us, to talk to us, to talk to us. Fechet.
