A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft to London collapsed shortly after take-off at an airport in Ahmedabad, western India, and over 200 people died.
“The aviation accident was terrible. I told them already we will do everything we can-it's a big country, a strong country, they will cope-I'm sure. But I told them we will do everything we can and we will get there. It was a terrible accident,” Trump told reporters at the White House.
Trump added that “I gave some directions” to the Indian authorities, but refused to reveal what they are.
“No one knows what happened,” he said. “It seems that (the plane) flew smoothly,” the White House leader said.
Trump also said he is convinced that this is “one of the most serious accidents in aviation history.”
The US president made these statements in an event organized in the eastern room of the White House, in which he also spoke about preventing California to implement the mandate of the state on electric vehicles.
The number of deaths in the aviation catastrophe in India has passed by 290 people, an Indian police officer said for the Reuters news agency, in the latest balance of authorities.
