The authorities in Bulgaria have announced that the bridge of “Friendship” Giurgiu-Ruse will be completely closed to the circulation on the evening of June 12, from 8 pm, until the morning of June 13, at 4 o'clock, for the execution of repair works on the Bulgarian part in an emergency regime, wrote the Institution of the Prefect-Giurgiu County, on Monday.
“Thus, it will be forbidden to pass on the bridge all types of vehicles in both directions – from the Republic of Bulgaria to Romania and Romania to the Republic of Bulgaria – during the period mentioned above. This measure is necessary to avoid the production of vibrations during the repair process,” said Giurgiu Prefecture.
In the first five months of the year the number of vehicles that crossed the bridge increased.
“The Bulgarian authorities inform the fact that between 01.01.2025 – 31.05.2025 the total number of vehicles that crossed the” Friendship “bridge in the Republic of Bulgaria was 587,438, of which 199,571 trucks, the figure being increasing by approximately 90,000 compared to the same period of 2024. Giurgiu Prefecture.
The institution added that “this increase is due to the entry of both countries into the Schengen area on the ground on January 1, 2025, which offered the possibility to cross the border, although the bridge of” friendship “Giurgiu – Ruse is in the process of repair, on the Bulgarian side”.
