The largest pilgrimage of the Catholics in southeast Europe, in Şumuleu Ciuc. Prayers for Covasna and Salina Praid Sinisters

Over 300,000 believers participated in the pilgrimage to Pentecost from Șumuleu-Ciuc, one of the largest Catholic religious events in Romania. It is the largest pilgrimage of Roman Catholics in southeastern Europe.

The believers, most of the Hungarian Catholics, set off to the place of pilgrimage – the outdoor altar located in the saddle of Șumuleu Mare and Șumuleu Mic. In order to reach the place of prayer on the mountain, the pilgrims who came to Șumuleu Ciuc climbed, on foot, more than two kilometers.

“I am from Sfântu Gheorghe, Covasna county. I am 66 years old and come here since I know myself. In childhood, my parents brought us, when I got married I came with my wife, then I brought the children. When I come here for the family, the rest knows what to give us. We help how we can, “said a man, who came to pilgrimage with his wife”said a believer, according to Agerpres.

“Now I pray for the family, for peace and for the people of Praid. To keep the Lord of an even greater distress and to help them,” said another person.

Miercurea-Ciuc City Hall announced that, this year, about 335,000 people were present at the pilgrimage.

“I had an emotional, sincere sermon, which put us in front of a mirror, as pilgrims of hope, at the pilgrimage of this year's Pentecost, spoken by the Camilian monk György Alfréd. As bearers of hope, prayer and learning of others, and learning to others. To others it should be our daily task.transmitted the City Hall of Miercurea-Ciuc, on FB.

Unfortunately, 201 people needed medical assistance, at the pilgrimage to the Catholic Pentecost of Șumuleu Ciuc. The believers received care both from the crews of the Harghita County Ambulance Service, as well as from the SMURD paramedics.

The pilgrimage from Şumuleu Ciuc has a tradition of over 450 years and has to do with a historical event from 1576, when the Prince of Transylvania, Ioan Sigismund, would have tried to impose the unitary religion to the Roman Catholic believers, the Secuieşti, Gheorgheni and Caşin chairs. People say that only with the help of the miracle statue from Şumuleu Ciuc managed to oppose and keep their ancestral faith. e.

Since then, on the Sabbath of Pentecost, the Catholics from all over the world, the majority of Hungarian, come in pilgrimage, prays at the statue of the Holy Virgin Mary in Șumuleu Ciuc and participates in the outdoor service that is officiated from an altar located in the saddle between Șumuleul Mare and Șumuleul Mic.
