A network of cocaine traffic that has been operating for several months between France and Brazil and involved luggage manipulators from the Parisian Airport Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle was abolished and eight people were arrested, the French gendarmerie announced on Saturday.
The arrests took place in the north of France and in the Paris region, during an operation in which 105 gendarmes and several specialized services were mobilized, reports France Presse and Agerpres.
At the end of 2024, two boxes containing 45 packs of cocaine, with a total weight of 50 kilograms, were discovered in an airport security control, the Gendarmerie explained in a press release.
After identifying this drug transport from Brazil to Charles-de-Gaulle, an investigation was opened.
The implementation of special investigation techniques made it possible to identify the size of the network, which was based on several employees and officials from the management of an airport company to transport 20-50 kg of cocaine per month, according to the gendarmerie.
During the operation carried out on June 3, almost 500,000 euros were confiscated from criminal activities and just over 100,000 euros in cash, plus five vehicles, a house, luxury articles (clothing, perfumes, jewelry, etc.) and a gun.
According to the Gendarmerie, “this case illustrates the ability of criminal organizations to bribe airport agents, especially by targeting” Middle managers “who are not in the attention of justice”.
