The beginning of June brought small increases at the distributors. Gasoline and diesel were tanked on average 2 gr/l more than a week ago. The autogas, whose average retail price has dropped to the lowest level since September 2024, was still under the lowest.

It is true that PB95 gasoline has become a second time in the last three weeks, the scale of this increase was cosmetic. On average, a liter of “green” was refueled by 5.76 PLN, so just two grosze per liter more than a week ago – according to BM Reflex data. And almost at the same price as in mid -May. Therefore, we are dealing with stabilization of retail prices at the lowest levels from Russian aggression to Ukraine in February 2022.

The same applies to diesel oil, whose average retail price in the past week also increased by 2 gr/li amounted to PLN 5.73/l. It was only a second week's price increase from this fuel from January. And also in this case we are talking about one of the lowest average retail price after February '22.

The good news was another drop in autogas prices. On average, LPG cost PLN 2.84, i.e. 3 gr/l less than a week ago. It was also the lowest average retail price of this fuel since September last year.

Let us point out that we are talking about average prices throughout Poland. At the same time, the rates at individual stations can differ by up to several dozen pennies per liter.

It's cheaper, but it's definitely not cheap

After the decline in fuel prices, which have been going on since mid -January, we refuel clearly cheaper than a year ago. PB95 gasoline costs 74 gr/l less than at the beginning of June 2024. Diesel during this period caught up at 76 gr/l. Only autogas remains 12 gr/l more expensive than a year earlier. And this is due to strong increases from the end of 2024, when the EU embargo entered into force for LPG supplies from Russia.

All this does not mean, however, that it got cheap at gas stations. It is worth recalling that in the whole story before February 2022 we only watched prices higher than those present in one short period. It was in autumn '21, when the average retail prices ON and PB95 reached PLN 6/l for the first time in history.

It was relatively cheap, e.g. in the spring of 2020, when as a result of the prohibitions imposed by the authorities, it was possible to refuel for less than PLN 4/l. As well as in the summer of 2016, when the Saudis flooded the world with their pus, fighting for market shares. We also saw prices with three at the front at the turn of 2008/09, when the global recession after the financial crisis managed the demand for fuel.

But now it is over two zlotys has a liter more expensive than then. Let me remind you that fuels could be much cheaper were it not for taxes imposed by the authorities. From each liter of gasoline or diesel, over 40% go to the hands of the state. For example, if the VAT rate was still 8%, gasoline and diesel could even cost less than PLN 5/l now. In addition, the rulers could bear the “emission fee” introduced by their predecessors, which would reduce gross prices by an additional 10 gr/l.
