Cristian Diaconescu, who accompanied President Nicuşor Dan on the visit of Vilnius, said on Thursday night at Antena 3, that he did not discuss the military involvement of Romania in the Ukraine war.
Diaconescu rejected the information that appeared on some online platforms regarding the military involvement of Romania in the war in the neighboring country, claiming that such information “has no real basis”, writes news.ro.
“There is no commitment argument from the perspective of Romania regarding the military aspect. Yes, we need to understand one thing: the fact that Ukraine resists represents a security argument for us.
In no way, Ukraine once they give in, we cannot have a positive expectation in the subsequent escalation attitudes of the Russian Federation”, Said Cristian Diaconescu.
He stressed that the discussions in Vilnius represented “A preparation for the Hague summit, in terms of solidarity, determination and a coherent message of the entire eastern flank ”.
“The Member States, including Romania, reiterated the NATO projection on the defensive and discouragement dimension and, from this point of view, what prevailed and, obviously, the Ukrainians understood as clearly as possible, was solidarity”, Said Diaconescu.
He showed that Romania has sent a message of “Continuity and predictability in relation to Ukrainian support ”.
According to Diaconescu, the messages transmitted by the countries participating in the Vilnius meeting were that “Through solidarity, discouragement is much better than through the military component.”
