In the middle of the second set, Andreeva stopped the game to signal to the chair referee a smell that, according to her, was excrement.
“It smells really bad in there, really shit!Mirra said, pointing to her side of the field. The referee upheld her complaint but took no action. She didn't dare get off her chair.
In the deciding set, the Russian led 5-1, but Bondar came back strong and equalized. At the score of 5-5, Mirra made his self-criticism and addressed those in his box: “I'm not a champion, I'm not, I'm going to lose“.
Mirra qualified further on Tuesday, in the semifinals, after passing the Canadian Leylah Fernandez (23 years old, 25 WTA), score 7-6 (1), 6-3.
