Common message from 24 embassies before Bucharest Pride. “The Romanian people reaffirmed their commitment to democratic values”

Twenty -four diplomatic missions in Bucharest transmitted a common message for support for the LGBTIQ+ community on Thursday. The letter comes two days before the Bucharest Pride parade, which takes place on Saturday, the 20th edition. The signatory countries include the United Kingdom, Canada and France. The United States, Italy and Hungary are not on the list.
In their message, diplomats remind that LGBTIQ+ persons are firmly protected by European Union legislation and international human rights treaties and recall that the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the European Union are mandatory for all Member States.
“The Romanian people have reaffirmed their commitment to democratic values, pluralism and European integration. These values-dignity, equality and justice-are also in the center of the movement for the LGBTIQ+ rights. Respecting the rights of LGBTIQ+ person in Bucharest.
At the same time, the representatives of the 24 embassies transmitted that they support the PRIDI events that take place throughout the country, respectively in Brasov, Cluj, Iași, Oradea and Timișoara.
“These regional prides are essential for the construction of inclusive local communities, for the amplification of the voices of LGBTIQ+ people from outside the Capital and to show that equality must be a reality for all, everywhere in Romania. Their presence strengthens the National Human Rights and transmits the message that love does not know borders.”

The Bucharest Pride 2025 march takes place on Saturday, June 7th. The participants will go from the government to the Parliament, on the route of Calea Victoriei – Izvor Park.
