The former candidate for the 2019 presidential election was sent to court in December 2022, on the charge that he has falsely stated that he has higher education, to occupy an expert IT position in a project with European funding at the National School of Political and Administrative Studies (SNSPA).
According to prosecutors, in 2016, Alexandru Cumpănașu would have convinced a project manager to hire him, although he did not meet the requirements stipulated in the job description: a bachelor's degree and at least one year of experience in the field. Although he would have promised on several occasions that he would bring the supporting documents, they have never been presented until the project is completed. The amount received by Alexandru Cumpănașu within the project was about 308,000 lei (the equivalent of about 60,000 euros).
The Bucharest Court ordered its acquittal in June 2024, and the Bucharest Court of Appeal has now maintained the verdict, the decision being final, according to Agerpres.
Alexandru Cumpănașu is a controversial figure in the public space. After the wave of visibility acquired following the Caracal case, he was involved in a scandal related to his activity on Tiktok, where he posted inappropriate messages to adolescents and was accused of promoting anti-lection discourses. In fact, in 2021, on his behalf, a research file was opened in Rem for the accusation of incitement to hatred and discrimination against teachers.
