The security service of Ukraine assumed responsibility for explosions that shook the Crimea Bridge on Tuesday and said they had affected the underwater structure. On Wednesday, in the first official reaction, the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, said “there are no damage,” according to Kyiv Independent.

According to the Ukrainian part, more than one ton of explosive in TNT equivalent were used on Tuesday, and the result is the deterioration of underwater supports.

“There was indeed an explosion. There was no deterioration, the bridge continues to work,” said Peskov, according to the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti. “Kiev continues in his attempts to attack infrastructure facilities.”

Built after the illegal occupation of Crimea by Russia in 2014, the Crimea Bridge, also known as the Kerch Bridge, is a critical supply and transport route for Russian forces to occupied Ukrainian territories. It connects the peninsula occupied by Krasnodar Krai from Russia through the Kerch Strait.

The Russian state press reported on June 3 that an “agent of Ukrainian secret services” who built a bomb at the “Kiev Orders” was detained by the Federal Security Service (FSB).

Subsequently, Dmitro Plettechuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, said the “key and most complex” part of the bridge was damaged in the attack.

The operation, following the SBU's massive drone attack against Russian strategic aviation on June 1, was personally supervised by the head of the Agency, Vasil Maliuk.

The bridge suffered significant damages during two previous Ukrainian attacks, in October 2022 and July 2023, but none of them managed to remove the bridge.
