The head of the Pentagon will not take part in the meeting regarding the defense of Ukraine
As the Associated Press Agency notes, the head of the Pentagon will leave the meeting for the first time for three years – and therefore since the creation of an international coalition of countries providing military assistance to Kiev. During the coalition's operation, over 50 countries, which are part of it, gave Ukraine weapons and other military assistance with a total value of approx. $ 126 billion. (PLN 473 billion). The United States assistance reached a total value of $ 66.5 billion. (PLN 250 billion).
HegeSeth also refused to come to the previous meeting of the Ukrainian contact group, which took place on April 11. However, he participated in it through video conferences.
After appointing the Secretary of Defense of the USA, Hegeth stated that Ukraine should give up the desire to join NATO and attempts to regain all territories occupied by Russia. At the same time, he hinted that, according to President Donald Trump, most of the obligations regarding help for Ukraine should take on Europe. After these words, John Healy and Boris Pistorius – ministers of defense of Great Britain and Germany – took over the main role in the international coalition of military assistance countries providing military assistance.
After the return of Donald Trump to the White House, the United States did not support the package of new military assistance for Ukraine. Washington, however, continues the supply of weapons, which were agreed as the presidency of Joe Biden. In this context, the Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed the hope that Washington would propose a new form of cooperation between Kiev's partners.
