The holder of Pornhub, Redtube and Youporn websites intend to stop the adult contents for users in France starting on Wednesday afternoon, in protest against government measures that oblige the platforms to verify the age of visitors.

The Aylo Freesites platforms will display an explanatory message to the public in France, in which the company justifies its decision, mentioning that it does not want to endanger the intimacy of the users, the company officials said on Tuesday, according to Politico.
Like other pornographic platforms, Aylo Fresites has the legal obligation to implement age verification solutions until June 7. The restriction is part of a series of measures adopted by the French government in 2023 to protect minors from inadequate content.
The giant in the industry was vehemently opposed to the French authorities in this regard. According to the company's internal statistics in 2024, France is the second largest market for Pornhub, after the United States and before the Philippines, Mexico and Kingdom.
Solomon Friedman, a partner at Ethical Capital Partners – the company that owns Aylo – said on a conference that French law is “Dangerous”, “With potential for violation of private life” and “Inefficient”.
“It is a matter of putting our values in the first place, and that means communicating directly with the French people, to tell them what their government refuses to tell them.”said Friedman.
The European Commission works, in turn, on another solution for checking the age and has accused AYLO platforms of violating the Digital Services Act) regarding the protection of minors.
Aylo – like the meta social network – advocates for a verification of age directly at the device level.
“We are eager to collaborate with the manufacturers of operating systems, app stores, other technological partners, to ensure that only adults have access to the platform. It is not that we do not want to take responsibility. It is about the fact that access from the source must be blocked.”Friedman added.
The French Minister of Digitization, Clara Chappaz, accused Aylo of lingering about French measures, which he claims to respect private life, in an X post made on Tuesday.
“To lie when you do not want to respect the law and take hostage to others is unacceptable. Adults are free to consume pornography, but not to the detriment of protecting our children.”she said.
Aylo did not specify how long the suspension will take and added that he hopes to find a solution soon to unlock access to adult content in France.
