The head of the French diplomacy Jean-Noël Barrot appealed on Tuesday to Benjamin Netanyahu to return to the idea of a solution with two states, invoking statements made by the Israeli prime minister in 2009, reports AFP, taken by Agerpres.

Senioring again “with the greatest firmness of the bombings on the civilians, the blocking of humanitarian aid, the forced relocation of the population and the recent decisions of the Israeli government to set up new colonies”, the French minister stated in a speech in Parliament an alternative to the “permanent state of war”.

“There is another way, another solution. And this other way is best described by Benjamin Netanyahu, prime minister of Israel in 2009,” said the head of French diplomacy, citing Netanyahu since then: “We must tell the truth. In this home a great community of Palestinians. Our flag or culture.

“And now I say it clearly, if we receive this guarantee regarding the demilitarization and security needs of Israel and if the Palestinians recognize Israel as the state of the Jewish people, then we will be prepared, in a future peace agreement, to reach a solution in which a demilitarized Palestinian state will exist with the Jewish State,”

“Well, we ask the Israeli prime minister to return exactly and precisely to his words in 2009, because this is the only way to peace,” said Jean-Noel Barrot in his speech.

France and Saudi Arabia will chair between June 17 and 20 an international conference in the Palestinian issue in New York in the idea of promoting the solution with two states.

Israel criticizes Paris's attempt to obtain the recognition of a Palestinian state under certain conditions.

Since the attack of the Hamas Israel group on October 7, 2023, Israel has completely besieged the Gaza Strip, with the price of tens of thousands of dead and a humanitarian disaster. At the beginning of May, the government of Benjamin Netanyahu announced a plan to “conquer” the Palestinian enclave, which involves the relocation of the majority of the inhabitants in the southern extremity of the territory.
