A large crowd of people gathered in Tehran's Punak district on Sunday evening, the 15th day of anti-government protests in Iran. Human rights activists say that the death toll recorded during the two weeks of demonstrations in the country has exceeded 500.

One of the slogans chanted at Sunday's protest in Tehran was “Long live the Shah,” according to images obtained by the independent publication Iran International.

In exile, the son of Iran's last shah urged US President Donald Trump to support efforts to “liberate” Iran. “I am ready to return to Iran at the first possible opportunity. I am already planning to do so,” Reza Pahlavi told Fox News, quoted by AFP.

State-operated drones were flying over Tehran on Sunday night, a witness said in a video sent to Iran International.

The protests in Iran began on December 28, when people took to the streets to protest economic issues. Since then, demonstrations have continued every day and have since turned into more general demonstrations against the theocratic regime in Tehran.

In an interview on state television on Sunday, Iran's president accused the United States and Israel of “trying to escalate” social tensions.

“They took some people here, domestically and abroad, and trained them. They brought terrorists from abroad into the country,” added Masoud Pezeshkian.

The Trump administration is considering response options

US President Donald Trump has been informed in recent days about new options for military attack against Iran, The New York Times wrote.

The Wall Street Journal reported that on Tuesday, the head of the White House is to be briefed on specific response options for the situation in Iran, among the possible scenarios being the strengthening of anti-government sources online, the conduct of cyber operations, the introduction of additional sanctions and military strikes.

According to the WSJ, no final decision is expected from Trump at Tuesday's meeting, with talks still at an early stage.

In the Fox News interview, the son of Iran's last shah described Trump as “a man devoted to peace and fighting evil faces.”

“Let's make Iran great again,” Pahlavi said.

The slogan “Make Iran Great Again” is a direct adaptation of Donald Trump's famous slogan, “Make America Great Again” (“Make America Great Agno“).

Demonstrations in other countries as well

This weekend also saw demonstrations in Europe and Australia, where Iranians staged demonstrations to send a message of solidarity with those back home, chanting slogans against the regime in Tehran and in support of Prince Reza Pahlavi.

Demonstrations took place in Glasgow, Scotland, as well as in Gothenburg, Sweden.

A demonstration also took place in the Netherlands, where protesters chanted “death to Khamenei” and “Long live the Shah”.

In London and Istanbul, Iranians and activists staged demonstrations in front of Iranian diplomatic missions, and demonstrators also gathered at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate.
