In 2024, 19.5 million children living in European Union countries were at risk of poverty or social exclusion – according to the latest data of the EU statistical office of Eurostat.

In turn, the lowest indicators occurred in Slovenia (11.8 percent), in Cyprus (14.8 percent) and in the Czech Republic (15.4 percent).

Further major increases took place in Croatia (+2 pp), as well as in Belgium and Bulgaria, where the increase was 1.2 pp, in turn, the largest declines were observed in Romania (-5.2 pp), Ireland (-3.7 pp) and Hungary (-3.3 pp). Italy was the only EU member state in which the level of this indicator remained unchanged, persistent at 27.1 percent.

According to Eurostat analyzes, children are more threatened with poverty than the rest of the EU society; The problem of poverty or social exclusion concerns 20.3 percent. adult residents of the EU (aged 18 and older).
