French Trade Minister Serge Papin announced on Wednesday his intention to file a complaint against two e-commerce platforms, AliExpress and Joom, over the sale of sex dolls that look like children. Papin announced that the state would refer the matter to a civil court.

– This is a fight aimed at protecting consumers, as well as children and teenagers – emphasized the head of the ministry.
In the context of the proceedings against another trading platform, Shein, he added that he wants the platform to prove that the products it will offer will comply with the French consumer code.
AliExpress is a Chinese sales website owned by Alibaba, while Joom – as reported by AFP – is a Russian platform founded in 2016.
At the beginning of November, public opinion and authorities in France were outraged by the offer to sell sex dolls resembling children, available on the Shein platform. Authorities subsequently determined that AliExpress and Joom were also selling such products. The government then initiated the suspension procedure for Shein and gave the company 48 hours to comply with applicable regulations. The platform has withdrawn illegal products, but court proceedings continue.
