The community “We see you from Sibiu”, known for the 669 -day silent protest organized after the adoption of Ordinance 13, returns to the street. The members of the group protest against the recent decision of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR), considered a step back in the fight for transparency.

“A new ordinance 13 given by the CCR. We all go out in Sibiu Great Square”transmitted on Thursday, on the official Facebook page, the community representatives.

Who are the protesters

“We see you from Sibiu” is a civic movement made up of people from various fields, which have organized a silent protest daily for almost two years. Between 2017 and 2019, they gathered in front of the PSD Sibiu headquarters at 12:00, in what they called “The free area of corruption”.

What the Constitutional Court has decided

On Thursday, the Constitutional Court decided that the legal provision by which the persons in public functions are obliged to declare the revenues and assets of the spouse is unconstitutional. The CCR admitted a complaint targeting articles of Law no. 176/2010 regarding integrity in the exercise of public functions and dignities.

The court motivated that the obligation “Dit is the assumption of the criminal liability of the declarant for information that he does not have/does not know directly ”.

Statements of wealth will no longer be public

At the same time, the RCC has established that the statements of wealth will no longer be public. The court invoked “The European conception oriented towards the need for private life and personal data“, As well as the article in the Constitution which stipulates that”The public authorities respect and protect the intimate, family and private life ”.

However, representatives of the Sibiu community believe that this decision endangers the transparency of public institutions and encourages the lack of responsibility among those who hold functions in the state. Their protest is a call to civic vigilance and respect for democratic principles.
