Starting from the second half of June, harmful mollusks will not leave your plants and the chance of salvation. The impending threat said by a researcher at the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University Vadim Maryinsky. This was reported by RIA Novosti (18+).
Slips are able to cause significant damage to the plant. They eat not only its leaves, but also fruits and even stems. The holes left after them cause further decay, which will become the main reason for the development of unpleasant consequences for the entire crop.
Of particular danger is the Spanish mucus. This is a representative of one of the most malicious representatives of their type. Among the relatives, it is distinguished by size. According to Maryinsky, an adult reaches 15 centimeters in length, and the number reaches 50 slugs per square meter.
Remember the basic recommendations for the protection of your garden:
- Clean the garden before the appearance of the pest. The regular weeding of weeds and cleaning of mowed grass is important.
- Remember the humidity on your beds. They should not be stagnant water. Between plants you need to have enough space to ensure proper ventilation.
- Physical obstacles in beds in the form of borders help against slugs.
- Sprinkle the soil with ash or lime. You can also use ordinary ground pepper or lay out coniferous branches.
- Do not forget about manual collection of slugs. You need to do this in the morning or in the evening. After precipitation falls, pay special attention to the collection process.
- Put the traps. It is enough to place several small containers throughout the garden. Fill them with sour -milk products or beer.
- The planting of garlic, parsley, lavender and sage will also help to protect the beds from slugs. It is enough to plant a small amount of these plants around the entire perimeter.
Stores to combat pests can also be effective, but it will be better to play it safe and apply several ways to protect crop.
