

Commenting on the news about the likely folding of the EU countries, the directive of temporary protection (TPD), which protects Ukrainian refugees, Chernyshov emphasized that the Ministry of National Unity carefully monitors the situation and defends the rights of every citizen of Ukraine, who was forced to leave the house due to aggression of Russia. In this regard, the minister announced a number of consultations in Brussels.
“Already next week in Brussels, a number of consultations will take place with my participation regarding the validity of temporary protection for Ukrainians in the EU. Together with partners we will work on its continuation. I am convinced that temporary protection for citizens of Ukraine in the countries of the European Union should be preserved before a long -term and sustainable world. At the same time, they must be aware that the continuation of this status cannot continue forever,” Chernyshev emphasized.

By The Eurostat, as of January 31, 2025, had almost 4.3 million Ukrainians who left Ukraine due to Russian invasion in the EU.
As Reuters noted, the return of refugees to Ukraine can harm the economies of Central and Eastern Europe. According to Raiffeisen Bank International, Ukrainians who have received legal rights to accommodate and work in Europe thanks to the EU directive from March 2022, contributed to the economic growth of European states.
On February 24, the European Commission reported that 4.5 million Ukrainian refugees who left for European countries want to return home.
On March 18, the Ombudsman of Ukraine Dmitry Lubinets with reference to the analytical report “Forced movement abroad” said that only 25% of Ukrainians who were forced to move abroad would like to return to Ukraine in the future.
