What does the US proposal for Ukraine involve?
Regarding negotiations with the US to end the war in Ukraine, Ryabkov said they were making “slow progress.” He also condemned the “malicious attempts of an influential group of countries” aimed at “torpedoing these efforts and disrupting the diplomatic process.”
An agreement on Ukraine “is what our opponents in Brussels and many European capitals fear so much,” Ryabkov said, and assured that Russian negotiators would “continue to move in this direction without ceasing their efforts.”
The deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry added that Moscow was not interested in discussing a temporary ceasefire.
– Our position is clear: we are in favor of a permanent cessation of hostilities within the framework of an agreement that will resolve the root causes of this conflict and guarantee the constitutional order of the Russian Federation, taking into account the decisions made in the relevant territories by their people, Ryabkov said.
US-Ukraine talks
Over the weekend, another round of talks on stopping fighting in Russia's war against Ukraine took place in Florida. AFP emphasized that although they did not bring a significant breakthrough, the United States and Ukraine called them “productive and constructive”.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the US proposal assumes territorial concessions from Ukraine to Russia in exchange for security guarantees for Kiev from Western countries. The alternative proposal of European countries includes, among others: deployment of multinational armed forces in Ukraine and security guarantees for Kiev similar to those contained in Art. 5 of the NATO Treaty.
