The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) definitely won the Sunday parliamentary election – the authorities in Caracas said on Monday. Voting boycotted some of the opposition groups.

According to the electoral commission, Psuv won the election to the unicameral parliament, obtaining nearly 83 percent. votes. The second place was taken by a democratic action considered to be a 6.25 percent support as an ally of socialists. This part of the opposition groups that issued their candidates won 5.17 percent. votes.
At the same time, Governors of 23 states and the capital district were elected. Only in one condition – Cojedes, southwest of Caracas – the opposition candidate won. In previous elections, from 2021, opposition candidates became governors in four states. The election commission said that, like four years ago, the election attendance was 42.6 percent.
Reuters emphasizes that despite great dissatisfaction and reluctance to the policy pursued by President Nicolas Maduro and his PSUV political facilities, the opposition in Venezuela is deeply divided. The agency reminded that some opposition groups called for a boycott on Sunday voting in protest against counterfeiting made during last year's presidential elections. In July 2024, Maduro, which has been headed by the state since 2013, won the third time in a row, although according to the opposition, her candidate obtained the most votes.
The result of last year's presidential election was also questioned by a large part of the international community. In response to alleged electoral fraud, the then US president Joe Biden has tightened sanctions against Venezuela, and the current American leader Donald Trump gave the oil concern Chevron Time to the nearest Tuesday to finish all operations in Venezuela.
