Two Russian military aircraft are suspected of violating the country's airspace on Friday, in the south of Finland, about 50 km from the capital Helsinki, according to the Finnish Ministry of Defense, AFP, quoted by Agerpres.

An investigation was initiated in this case.

“The Finladez Ministry of Foreign Affairs today convened on Russia's ambassador and asked for explanations regarding the alleged violation of the air space”is shown in an ad posted on the social network X.

Finland, who gave up decades of military non -alignment to join NATO in 2023, has a common border of 1,340 km with Russia.

Finland “supervises and evaluates Russia's activities and intentions”

Moscow repeatedly warned Finland against NATO's accession to the massive invasion of Russia in Ukraine in February 2022.

Last week, the Finnish Minister of Defense, Antti Hakkanen, told AFP that his country “supervises and evaluates Russia's activities and intentions. “

The statements were made after the satellite images published by the New York Times seemed to indicate an extension of the Russian military infrastructure near the border.

Hakkanen said that the measures taken by Russia to strengthen their armed forces are not a surprise to Finland.

After his accession to NATO, Finland also increased his military investments and strengthened the preparation of the population in case of military attack.

Finland announced in April that it will increase the defense expenses to at least 3% of GDP by 2029 and that it will launch a reform of its defense forces to cope with the threat to its security.

A few days ago, Finnish officials said that Russia is expected to strengthen their troops along the common border after the Ukraine's war, following information that Moscow had strengthened their military bases near the NATO border.
