The first domestic strawberries appeared on sale at the beginning of May, their price was high due to the fact that they came from a greenhouse, where the cultivation is more expensive. Currently, you can already buy fruit from under the foil, and even half -covered with non -woven fabric. Their prices are currently at the level of 15 to 25 PLN per kilo, depending on the quality and cultivation method – explained the expert of the wholesale market in Broniszach Maciej Kmera.
Last year, Polish strawberries were on sale earlier, vegetation was accelerated by about 2 weeks and were cheaper. In mid-May a kilo of fruit cost PLN 12-15 per kilo.
The expert noticed that A fairly high price of strawberries is also due to the fact that the weather was unfavorable to ripening fruit – It was cold, frosts occurred in many regions of the country. Now “goes to better”, synoptics announce warming and a lot of sun. Fruits should ripen quickly, and they can even be “rash” – he explained.
As Komer pointed out, greenhouse strawberries – this is a sales margin, but their appearance and quality are high. The rest of about half and half of the offer – these are fruits from plastic tunnels from field crops. The latter are the cheapest, but the strawberries are less good, less colored.
When it comes to supply, it is also smaller because of the weather. Consumers like strawberries, but they most often buy them when it is warm. “In a moment, interest in strawberries should increase,” added Kemer.
Strawberry prices remain relatively stable, in plastic tunnels or in the ground, previously covered with non -woven fabric. Greenhouse strawberries reach a price of up to PLN 25 per kilo, tunnels cost about PLN 20/kg, while fruit from ground crops, sold in two -kilogram lukeicles, are valued at PLN 15-18/kg – said Maciej Kmera.
Competition for domestic strawberries is import, among others from Greece. Until recently, they could be bought, among others in commercial networks and at promotional prices. Currently, they have disappeared from Warsaw stores.
How much for strawberry?
Import will come back again – assured Kemer. – The merchants were careful so far, fearing that the Polish strawberry “spins” and remain with the imported goods, but it turned out that the domestic fruit is missing, and the price of imported strawberries is favorable – he explained. The price of imported strawberries is much lower, in the middle of the week they cost PLN 10/kg, but when the Polish strawberry turned out to be the road, the importers also raised the price to PLN 15-17/kg.
In about two weeks the first domestic cherries will appear, they will be early varieties – said the vice president of the Association of Fruits of the Republic of Poland Krzysztof Czarnecki. There will not be much cherry this year, because some trees have dreamed. – Probably the prices will be higher than last year – said Czarnecki. Currently imported cherries on the wholesale market in Broniszach cost PLN 25-65/kg.
