At least 12 people were injured in an attack with the knife at the Hamburg Central Station on Friday, according to the German Bild publication, and the Local Police confirmed the detention of the alleged attacker, reports Reuters.
Suspect is a 39 -year -old woman, who is believed to “acted alone,” the German police said, according to AFP.
Among the victims are “six people with wounds who put their lives in danger,” said a spokesman for firefighters in Hamburg. The German press offered a lower balance for the number of victims with severe wounds.
Some of the victims received medical care in trains at the station, say journalists from Bild.
The reasons behind the attack are still unclear, but the people of the law claim that the investigations are conducting with “maximum speed”.
The German railway operator Deutsche Bahn has announced that there may be “partial delays or cancellations” at the railway services, given the police operation, reports Deutsche Welle.
The Hamburg incident is only the latest attack that has been held in Germany lately. On Sunday, five young people were injured, four of them, after being attacked by a man born in Syria, in a bar in Bielefeld. The suspect, 35 years old, was arrested.
The investigation was taken over by the federal prosecutors, who say that the incident “was religiously motivated and must be understood as an attack on the free and democratic fundamental order.”
In Berlin, a 13-year-old boy was arrested on Friday after stabbing a 12-year-old colleague on Thursday in a school in the Spandau neighborhood.
