Vietnam authorities block access to Telegram


For similar reasons in France, an investigation is underway against the founder of the Telegram – Paweł Durow. The ministry also called telecommunications companies to “implement solutions and resources aimed at preventing the activities of a telegram in Vietnam.” In the document of May 21, it stated that suppliers must inform about the funds taken at the latest by June 2.
According to the Department of Cyber security, 68 percent Of the 9,600 channels and groups in the messenger operating in Vietnam, it violates the law and is related to fraud, drug sales and – as the authorities suspect – terrorism.
A representative of the department said that the decision to block the website was made after his management refused to provide the government of users, which the authorities asked as part of investigating in criminal matters.
Weight in Vietnam is also accused by the creators of Telegram of non -compliance with legal requirements obliging social networking sites to track, remove and block information violating the law. In addition, the authors of the document, referring to the police data, stated that a number of groups in the messenger, with tens of thousands of participants, “were created by opposition and reactionary entities disseminating anti -government materials”.
In 2024, the telegram first became profitable – according to the Financial Times magazine during the year, the service earned $ 540 million. (approx. PLN 2 billion). The company's revenues based in Dubai increased to $ 1.4 billion. (PLN 5.2 billion) – a year earlier they amounted to $ 343 million. (PLN 1.3 billion).
