Tragedy in Cambodia. Lightning hit the temple inscribed on the UNESCO list


The day after the incident, the Minister of Tourism Cambodia Hout Hak issued a statement in which he asked people to remove entries about this event from the Internet. He stated that the dissemination of “negative information” could harm the country's tourism industry.

The authorities did not provide any information about this event. On Monday, one of the officials anonymously told the Associated Press agency that all who died as a result of this event were citizens of Cambodia.

The Cambodian Red Cross also published a message in which he informed that he provided parcels with the help of families of two victims, a 34-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman. Angkor Wat spokesman did not answer requests for comment, as did the regional health official.

Angkor Wat is the most popular tourist place in Cambodia – it attracts about 2.5 million visitors annually. This temple complex occupies about 400 sq km and contains the ruins of the capitals of the Khmer Empire from IX-XV W.
